Flic En Flac is one of the hidden gems of Africa. It is one of the well kept secrets among discerning travelers who value peace and quiet on a vacation. The town has come a long way from being the minuscule fishing hamlet it is now. The two hundred year village is an extremely attractive destination that is in fact the second best travel destinations in Mauritius. Even then, Flic En Flac has remained free of too much spotlight.
Flic En Flac is situated at the beginning of a pristine expanse of a coast that has its end at Le Morne Peninsula in the south. The resort was once little more than a tiny hamlet that was involved in fishing. The village has grown into a town, and has a number of attractions, the most beautiful of them being the heavenly stretch of lagoon. The living standard has risen quite high. Tourism is a great source of income. There are a good number of excellent hotels, resorts as well as bungalows available for tourists.
Flic En Flac Beach is situated on the west coast and has beautiful Casurina trees. It is an extremely popular beach and is visited by both locals and tourists in large numbers. The problem with the busy beach is that it is not very clean. It is also not suitable for swimming. Many people come here from the central highlands and hold large picnics, which spoils the place even more.
The place to visit is actually the lagoon. That is if you are into swimming and diving etc. The lagoon has a clear stretch of water that makes it a great spot for swimmers. There are a good number of other locations, such as the Blue Bay Beach located on the south east shore. The beach is popular for water sports such as windsurfing, swimming as well as yachting.
There are quite a good number of other highlights such as La Vanille Crocodile Park, Domaine de l’Ylang Ylang, Le Waterpark, Le Val Nature Park and more.
